Homelessness Prevention Program - Housing Outreach Worker

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

The Homeless Prevention Program connects people who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homelessness with stable accommodation and appropriate services.

The Program is guided by these principles:

  1. Program services are accessible and Client focused.
  2. Operations are transparent and accountable.
  3. The service environment is safe, secure and welcoming.
  4. The sector works collaboratively to improve service effectiveness and client experience.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Housing Outreach Worker will help individuals, who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless, secure and maintain safe, stable accommodation and connect them to appropriate services. 

The Housing Outreach Worker focuses on the prevention of homelessness by working with individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless due to crisis or transition.  The Housing Outreach Worker provides outreach services that directly engage people who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homelessness by assessing Clients’ needs, assisting with personal goals, and connecting individuals and families with stable accommodation and appropriate services.

Meadows - Housekeeping/Meal Server – Permanent Part-time

Program Summary:

The Meadows Assisted Living is an Independent Living BC (ILBC) project and a partnership between Smithers Community Services Association, BC Housing, and the Northern Health Authority, providing seniors with affordable housing, social and recreation activities, hospitality and personal care services. The partnership allows people who require some assistance but not 24-hour care, to remain living independently.

Position Summary:

This person will be responsible to clean common rooms daily, clean tenant units’ weekly, serve lunch and dinner meals daily and clean up after meals as budgets allow.

Summer Step Up Tutor 2019

Program Summary:

Step-Up helps elementary school children maintain and strengthen their literacy and numeracy skills over the summer. Through small group or one-on-one tutoring, students work on basic skills in a casual summer environment. A second priority of Step-Up is to offer meaningful work experience in the education field to students considering teaching as a career.

Position Summary:

The Step-up Program works with school aged children/youth whose parents have registered them in the Step-Up program. The tutor is responsible for planning and executing lessons which work towards achieving the student's goals.

Goodacre Place Support Worker

Goodacre Place Supportive Housing is a 22 unit supported housing project offering long-term tenancies and short-term emergency stays for people who are experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of becoming homeless.

Goodacre Place Supportive Housing is developed in partnership with BC Housing, the Town of Smithers and Smithers Community Services Association. Together we provide program participants with affordable housing, meals, case planning, social and recreation activities, and other training and workshops.  The units are bachelor style and designed for single occupancy, two are wheelchair accessible.

To be considered eligible for supportive housing an individual must be experiencing homelessness or be at risk of becoming homeless.
