Better at Home - Housekeeper (Part Time)
PROGRAM: Better at Home
POSITION: Housekeeper (Part-time 7 hours a week to start)
Better at Home is a province-wide initiative designed to help seniors remain independent at home and stay connected with their community.
Better at Home supports seniors to age in place with dignity, stay socially connected and reduce social isolation, particularly among those seniors who are most vulnerable. The program recognizes that seniors play an integral and growing part in community, and aims to help them with simple day-to-day tasks so they can remain living in their own home.
The Better at Home program offers a range of non-medical support services such as light housekeeping, grocery shopping, minor home repairs, friendly visiting, snow shoveling, light yard work, and transportation to appointments.
Services are delivered by volunteers and paid workers. Seniors are charged a fee for services on a sliding scale based on income.

Family Support - Family Support Worker
PROGRAM: Family Support
POSITION: Family Support Worker
The Family Support Program provides direct, relevant support services for caregivers (and children and youth within the context of the family) to assist and guide them in the development of effective behaviour management techniques that promote healthy adult-child and youth relationships, bridge-transitions, and stabilize home placements for children and youth. The Program provides a range of social, educational, community based and outreach activities that empower and strengthen the capacity of families to care for their children with services that span from intensive individual interventions to group services that promote mutual aid.
The Family Support Program services are short-term, family-focused, and designed to assist families in crisis by improving parenting and family functioning while keeping children safe. The Family Support Program grew out of the recognition that children need a safe and stable family and that separating children from their families is traumatic for them, often leaving lasting negative effects. These services build upon the conviction that many children can be safely protected and supported within their own homes when parents are provided with support services that empower them to broaden their perspectives around the challenges that their children are having and the range of ways that they can support their children and change their family’s lives.
While the stabilization of children and youth in their biological home is not always possible, the behaviour and needs of children and youth placed in foster homes or in out-of-care placements may be complex and challenging. The children and youth may be experiencing a combination of emotional, behavioural, psychological or social challenges related to harm experienced due to neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, family violence, unstable environments and/or prenatal exposure to drugs or alcohol. These factors may impact the child or youth’s ability to stabilize in their residential placement.
