Smithers & District Transit began providing bus service in May of 1991 with a 9 passenger van.  Today, Smithers Transit operates two 24 passenger buses and transports over 18,000 passengers each year.  The system serves the communities of Smithers, Telkwa and portions of the Regional District.

Both vehicles are equipped with accessible features to make boarding easier for those passengers with mobility difficulties. They are also equipped with a lift or a ramp to allow passengers using wheelchairs or scooters to access the buses. The buses also have bike racks.

Two different kinds of transit service are provided; fixed route and curb-to-curb.

Fixed Route Transit provides scheduled service between Smithers and Telkwa Monday through Saturday - 5 trips on Monday, 6 trips Tuesday to Friday and 4 trips on Saturday.  These trips also offer deviated door-to-door service for passengers who are less physically mobile and are unable to access the service along its scheduled route.  Monthly Passes and the BC Bus Pass Program offer savings to fixed route passengers.

Curb To Curb Transit provides convenient transportation to and from destinations in the Smithers and Regional District areas. Passengers book these trips in advance through the Smithers Transit dispatcher.
